Joining Reception 

A confident, happy start to school

Starting Reception is a big milestone for children and parents alike. At Belmore, we make sure every child’s transition into school is positive, nurturing and exciting.

From the very beginning, children experience bold learning through play, exploration and hands-on discovery. Getting it right in reception means that children start their education with the secure foundations of learning. We ensure every child is supported in acquiring the skills they need to set them up for a life-time of learning: from confidence to take risks and problem solve to the fundamentals of reading, writing and number; from being able to clearly express needs and wants to having the confidence to perform on stage, we support children in every aspect of their early development.

Supporting transition into Reception

We know how important a smooth transition is, so we:

• Work closely with parents and carers tailoring the process to the needs of the child where needed
• Liaise with nurseries and early years settings. If your child already attends Belmore Nursery visits to reception and with the reception staff are planned throughout the summer term.
• Visit your child at home if they are new to the school so we get to know them in their safe place
• Offer a range of settling-in opportunities so children can come to the provision more than once and start to feel that it is their place
• Provide clear communication and reassurance throughout the process for both children and families.
